A score you can follow.
Each 0-100 score describes this regular season so far. Overall balances winning results with opponent-adjusted scoring strength. Offense and defense remain league-relative grades. Scores are not probabilities of winning.
Overall
50% actual win percentage + 50% opponent-adjusted scoring strength. Ties count as half a win. A great offense or defense can carry a team through the points it scores and allows.
Offense
40% points per game, 25% net yards per play, 20% team passer rating, and 15% third-down conversion rate.
Defense
60% points allowed per game, 25% takeaways per game, and 15% sacks per game. Fewer points allowed is better.
Method details and limitations
Offense and defense components use league percentiles from 0 to 100. Ties share a midpoint percentile. Scores display one decimal; equal displayed scores are ordered by win percentage, then team name. Filters never change scores or league ranks. A missing offense or defense component leaves that unit unscored rather than redistributing its weight. Overall uses verified results and completed-game scores independently; teams with no games remain unscored.
Points include defensive and special-teams scoring. Traditional team passer rating represents quarterback contribution. Net yards per play uses net passing plus rushing yards and all offensive plays. Offense and defense retain nfl-percentile-v1 and are not opponent-adjusted. Overall uses nfl-overall-srs-v2 and adjusts for the opponents played. Analyst opinions have no numeric contribution.
Overall strength starts with scoring margin per game and accounts for opponents' strength in one league-wide calculation. It shrinks toward average using games played / (games played + 2), keeping short or disconnected schedules stable. The strength score is 50 + 3 times adjusted strength in points, limited to 0-100. Your team scorecard shows the inputs and both weighted contributions.
The 50/50 balance and three index points per adjusted scoring point are descriptive choices, not calibrated predictions. There is no home-field or injury adjustment, and no forecast calibration or demonstrated predictive advantage. New overall scores are not comparable with nfl-percentile-v1 overall scores; offense and defense keep their existing formulas.
